It’s no secret that team chemistry is probably going to be the biggest factor that will determine the Milwaukee Bucks’ level of success this season. This new-look side has already played nine games so far this season, which includes Friday’s 112-97 blowout loss to the Orlando Magic.
At this point, it’s hard to deny that chemistry still remains to be an issue for this squad.
Bobby Portis Gets Real on Milwaukee Bucks Lack of Chemistry
Bucks veteran Bobby Portis, who finished Friday’s brutal loss to Orlando with 13 points, seven rebounds, and two steals off the bench, spoke to the media after the game, which happened to be Milwaukee’s second straight defeat in three days. The 6-foot-10 big man did not mince words in describing how far along this team is in terms of being on the same wavelength:
“I think just, for the most part, our camaraderie and chemistry is just not there at all,” he said, via Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “I think it’s kind of obvious on the court. I think that will take a minute. We don’t want it to take too long — but we’ll figure it out here soon, hopefully. We’re just trying to figure out one another.
“New things that Coach wants that we’re trying to implement and focus on and things like that, which kind of goes away from how we used to play. We’re trying to figure it out and trying to get to it, trusting in what he wants and then just doing the things that asked of us.”
Portis is calling it as it is — which is exactly what you would expect from the no-nonsense vet. Right now, the Bucks just aren’t where they want to be in terms of the rapport and the connection that they have within the squad.
Portis has remained positive, though. He knows that it’s going to take time for this new-look squad to get accustomed to each other. It’s going to be a tough road ahead, but right now, Bobby Buckets is just trusting the process.
