Willy Adames is part of the Milwaukee Brewers no more but the team won’t allow his vacated position to become a weak spot.
They team said Joey Ortiz, who was named Rookie of the Month in May last year, is expected to have a more prominent role in the infield in the new season following the departure of the Dominican shortstop.
The pressure in that position is not his alone as recent reports revealed the Brewers are making a move to acquire an All-Star level baseman from the Colorado Rockies.
“The #Brewers and #Rockies have held preliminary discussions regarding a trade that would send 3B Ryan McMahon to Milwaukee. The Brewers feel confident in Joey Ortiz’s ability to hold down SS after the departure of Willy Adames and McMahon is a very capable 3B with major pop,” wrote insider Sean Wright on X.
The report must be taken with a grain of salt as Wright is not an MLB reporter. However, he has ears in Wisconsin sports as he has been credited before for breaking Milwaukee Bucks trade news before the big names do.
McMahon is a first time All-Star last season when posted .243 batting average and had 124 home runs with 417 runs batted in.

This is not the first time McMahon’s name gets attached to the Brewers. Brewer Fanatic floated the idea of having him in the line-up late last year.
The publication suggested that the team should move Ortiz to shortstop but they will need a third baseman.
McMahon is a name that popped off not just because of his quality but also because of the reported plan by the Rockies to trim their payroll.
He is currently in the middle of the six-year contract he signed in 2022.
Right now, there are not confirmation yet from the Colorado Rockies if they are a team that will sell with one month to go before the opening day.
