Milwaukee Brewers Are Still Underdogs This 2025 Season Per Christian Yelich – ‘We Kind of Enjoy Proving People Wrong’

The Milwaukee Brewers are projected to do better than they did last season but for star Christian Yelich, they are still among the underdogs in the league.

Milwaukee Brewers infielder Anthony Seigler runs the bases during spring training workouts Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at American Family Fields of Phoenix in Phoenix, Arizona.

The MLB Spring Training has started and Yelich wants his team to remain under the radar of many analysts. He thinks people doubting them only gives them extra motivation.

“We’re always the underdogs every season it seems like,” Yelich during an appearance the MLB Network Radio.

“We kind of enjoy proving people wrong.”

Talks of the Brewers being among the teams to watch out for 2025 stems from their 2024 season wherein they finished no. 1 in the National League Central to win the division. They even won it 10 games above second place St. Louis Cardinals.

That first place finish, of course, did not lead to a great finish as they only managed a Wild Card stint where they lost to the New York Mets.

It did not help, too, that Yelich was shut down by August to undergo surgery for his injured back.

Christian Yelich’s status for Milwaukee Brewers opening day

Yelich is among the reasons why many analysts are optimistic about the Brewers for the new season.

Will he be able to play in the opening day next month?

His recovery is looking good is probably the safest way to answer questions about his return.

“Christian Yelich taking BP on the field this morning is another good sign. Pat Murphy said he sees Yelich getting onto Cactus League games once the calendar flips to March,” wrote MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy on Tuesday.

Yelich, who hit an impressive .315/.406/.504 with 11 homers in a shortened season, last spoke about his injury recovery in second week of February.

“I don’t see any reason why I won’t be ready for Opening Day,” he said on February 15.

“I saw before I came out here that I might be a question mark for Opening Day, and I’m not sure where that came from. Unless something crazy happens here, I don’t see why I wouldn’t be ready.”
