The Milwaukee Brewers roster entering the 2025 season is not the same as it was entering the 2024 season. The Brewers may not have done enough this offseason to find a replacement for shortstop Willy Adames.

Adames left in the offseason for the San Francisco Giants. Milwaukee might take a step back this season. There will be some MLB teams that will look to take a step forward this season and one of those teams will be the Toronto Blue Jays.

Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. did not sign a long-term extension and it is possible he may not be with the team much longer. Guerrero Jr. is in the final year of his contract with Toronto and some wonder if he will be traded at some point during the 2025 MLB season.
Fansided.com writer Zach Pressnell thinks that the Brewers and the Blue Jays should make a trade with each other. He has Milwaukee acquiring first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. from Toronto and he has the Blue Jays acquiring from the Brewers first baseman Tyler Black, prospect shortstop/third baseman Jesus Made, prospect third baseman Brock Wilken, and right-handed pitcher Josh Knoth. Pressnell said about this potential trade:
“This deal would be made on the back of Brewers young first baseman Tyler Black. Black, 24, is a former top prospect, but he slashed a measly .204/.316/.245 in a short big league stint during the 2024 season. He’s much better than these numbers indicate as he slashed .272/.402/.453 in 315 career minor league games.
Jesus Made is one of MLB Pipeline’s top 100 prospects heading into the 2025 season. Made, 17, slashed a ridiculous .331/.458/.554 with six home runs, six triples, and nine doubles in 51 games of rookie ball last year. He has some incredible raw tools.
Wilken, 22, has incredible power and a tremendous arm. He struggled a bit last season, but there are typically growing pains with young prospects. Once he finds his stride in pro ball, he’s going to be very good.
Knoth, 19, made 21 starts at the Low-A level last season. He showed tremendous ability to generation swings and misses, but he also had an issue with walks. If he can lower the walk rate as he matures, he’s going to be a great pitching prospect.
It’s unclear if the Brewers would want to part ways with this much young talent for a surefire rental piece. It’s also unclear if the Blue Jays would be willing to move Guerrero in a deal like this. Either way, it’s an intriguing idea to consider.”
This would be a lot to give up if you’re the Milwaukee Brewers. However, this is what it would take to go get Guerrero Jr. and the Brewers would need to finally spend some money and sign him to a long-term deal.
Last season with Toronto, he had a .323 batting average with 30 home runs and 103 RBIs, along with two stolen bases and two caught stealing attempts. Guerrero Jr. also had a .396 on-base percentage. He is only 25 years old.
Other Options

The trade theory itself would not be a bad idea for both teams, but it would feel like a pipe dream for the Milwaukee Brewers to get a potential star in a trade. Milwaukee is not known for signing players to big contracts for the long term.
That is one of the reasons why they let Willy Adames walk in the first place. If the Brewers were to trade for the Toronto Blue Jays first baseman, they would have to sign him to a long-term deal. If they were to also trade for Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and not sign him to a long-term deal, then it would not be worth it for them to give up all of those prospects in a trade.
