The Milwaukee Brewers have been a surprise to start the 2024 season. Milwaukee is 10-6 to start the season and the Brewers have been good with Pat Murphy in his first season as the manager after Craig Counsell left for the Chicago Cubs in the offseason.
Williams Contreras and Jackson Chourio have been the two best players in the Brewers lineup to start the season. Christian Yelich was just placed on the 10-day injured list for Milwaukee. He also has been a huge part of Milwaukee’s success to start this season.
On Tuesday, The Athletic released a power ranking for the MLB so far this season. The Milwaukee Brewers are ranked seventh and they were ranked 13th in the last power ranking. Kaitlyn McGrath said about the Brewers being ranked in the Top 10 at this point of the season by saying:
“This season, the Brewers are upending their reputation as a pitch-first organization. Before games on Monday, the Brewers were averaging 6.5 runs per game, tied for first in the majors with the Braves.
Helping to lead the Brewers’ unexpected offensive outburst has been William Contreras, who was leading the National League with a .375 batting average. His hits haven’t been cheap ones, either, as the catcher is hitting the ball as hard as ever before.
The Brewers were supposed to be entering a re-tooling phase, yet they’ve emerged as an early contender for the NL Central crown. It’s tough to say whether this young and scrappy lineup can keep this up, but it’s at least fun to watch for now.”
There were many questions about this offense heading into this season. If Contreras were ever to get hurt, the lineup would be in trouble.
The Milwaukee Brewers Will Be In Contention In the National League Central Whether Or Not They Are a Top 10 Ranked Team
Even if the Brewers are not ranked in the Top 10 in all of baseball, one thing is for sure is that they will contend for a National League Central Division Crown once again this season. Every team in the division is .500 or better to start the season and it is more competitive than it was a season ago.
Milwaukee won the division a season ago with a 92-70 record and it would take probably 90 wins to win that division again this season. The Milwaukee Brewers have been questioned about the starting rotation. If they are in contention and if the pitching is so-so, they would maybe need to trade for another starting pitcher at the MLB trade deadline.
They have looked like a Top-10 team in baseball to start the season and have not over the last two games against the San Diego Padres. Milwaukee is in a good spot to start the 2024 season.
