The Milwaukee Brewers are in need of a starting pitcher for Saturday, September 2. This opening in the rotation is due to Adrian Houser being placed on the IL with elbow stiffness that popped up during his last start. According to Dominic Cotroneo Colin Rea will be the player called up to face the Philadelphia Phillies.
Colin Rea will be the Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher on Saturday against the Philadelphia Phillies (report).
Earlier in the year Colin Rea did a nice job filling in as a starting pitcher. Injuries at the time to Brandon Woodruff, Adrian Houser, and Eric Lauer opened up the door for him. He ended up covering 100.1 innings for the Brewers, made 19 starts, and had a 5.11 ERA.
For the Brewers veteran Colin Rea is a safe choice to have fill in for a spot start or two. He has a track record of some nice outings earlier this year and had been pitching well in Triple-A with the Nashville Sounds (2.50 ERA over 18.0 innings).
Many were hoping that Robert Gasser would get to make his MLB debut, but that will have to be put on hold. If the Brewers desire they could promote him at a later date, but would have to add him to the 40-man roster prior.
