The Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago White Sox met for a Cactus League game on Wednesday, March 13. In the end the White Sox prevailed easily by a score of 15-4. Spring training games can sometimes get ugly and spiral out of control and that is exactly what happened in this content.
Three takeaways from the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago White Sox spring training game.
Takeaway #1: There were lots of defensive miscues
As reported by The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Brewer Fanatic this game was a poor defensive showing for Milwaukee. Catcher Gary Sancehz had a pair of passed balls in the third inning and then added another in the sixth inning. Joey Wiemer miss played a ball in the outfield, Tyler Black was caught out of position at first base, and outfielder Brewer Hicklen lost a ball in the sun while also bobbling the baseball on a separate occasion.
- Takeaway #2: Bryan Hudson had another dominant performance
Left-handed pitcher Bryan Hudson recorded seven outs in this contest. Across the 2.1 innings that he worked he surrendered just one hit and struck out four. Across 8.1 total innings this spring he has a 1.08 ERA, 14 strikeouts, and a 0.96 WHIP
- Takeaway #3: Brewer Hicklen hit his third home run this spring
Non-roster invitee Brewer Hicklen hit a home run in this game. This marked his third long ball of Cactus League play. Across 19 at-bats he has six total hits with four of them going for extra bases. The 28 year old won’t beat out any of Milwaukee’s current 40-man roster members who also play the outfield, but it is nice to see him performing well.
Milwaukee’s next game will be Thursday, March 14 against the Seattle Mariners. The Brewers are 7-12 in spring training this year whereas the Mariners are 6-12.
