The Milwaukee Brewers farm system is currently loaded with talent that includes several offensive standouts as well as elite pitching prospects. In particular one left-handed starting pitcher “feels close” to being ready for his MLB debut. Of course that is not entirely up to him, but he did have some interesting things to say about his progression and adjustments made this season.
Milwaukee Brewers pitching prospect Robert Gasser “feels close” to MLB debut.
Robert Gasser was headlined in the latest addition of MLB Pipeline Pitching Lab and talked about his game, progression, pitch repertoire, and much more. To summarize he “feels close” to having his game where it needs to be and is currently focused more on throwing strikes than pitch mix or movement.
“I feel close. I feel like my games were in a good spot. I feel like I’ve grown a lot over this year. I started off the year not very good, walking a ton of guys. But for the past month and a half or so, I’ve cut down the walks a ton, thrown a lot more strikes and the strikeout numbers are still pretty good. As long as I can keep guys off the basepaths, I think I’ll be in really good shape.”
“Honestly, it’s more of a location thing right now rather than the movement or profile. The profile is great. I have to figure out where to start the ball and get it in the zone more often.”
With MLB rosters expending on September first it is quite possible that Robert Gasser gets added to the 40-man roster and makes his MLB debut this season. There isn’t a path to the starting rotation for him on the Brewers, but he could potentially serve as a viable left-handed option out of the bullpen for new addition Andrew Chafin has struggled since arriving.
Milwaukee has used similar approaches with top pitching prospects in the past. All of Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff, and Freddy Peralta were used in long relief roles early on in their careers, so Robert Gasser could follow that same path while also adding some punch to the Brewers bullpen this season. If he does not make his MLB debut this season then it should definitely occur in 2024.
