The Milwaukee Brewers entered Sunday’s finale against the Chicago Cubs 6-0 in games where Freddy Peralta was the starting pitcher. That changed after the Brew Crew dropped the rubber match 5-0 and Peralta matched a career high in walks. Following this game Peralta is expected to serve his five game suspension and miss his next scheduled turn in the rotation.
The Milwaukee Brewers lost 5-0 against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday and failed to win the series.

This year the Brewers have been baseball’s best road team as their 13 wins away from home are the most in the league. Unfortunately they were unable to win a three games series against the Chicago Cubs after winning the first game 3-1 and then dropping the second 6-5 and the third game 5-0. Three earned runs came against Freddy Peralta in Sunday’s finale and the other two off Thyago Vieira and Janson Junk.
Freddy Peralta matched a career high in walks with six.

In five innings of work Freddy Peralta matched a career high in walks with six. The last time he did it, and per Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the last time a Brewers pitcher did this, was May 19, 2018. That date was his second career start. Dominic Controneo pointed out on X that the Cubs had a great game plan against him as they chased just one breaking pitch outside of the strike zone all day.
The Cubs had a strong gameplan against Freddy Peralta today: they dared him to get a called strike with his breaking balls.

With Freddy Peralta serving his suspension, when will he pitch next?

Right now the plan is for Peralta to serve his five game suspension due to the punishment from Major League Baseball for his involvement in the Tampa Bay Rays and Josi Siri situation. This means that he will not pitch on normal rest, but is expected to return next Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Manager Pat Murphy did hint at Robert Gasser as a possible replacement for Perlata’s next start.
Freddy Peralta confirmed he plans to drop the appeal, start serving his five-game suspension tomorrow and then pitch again on Saturday.
