Milwaukee Brewers Acquire Former 3rd Round Pick Via Trade With Philadelphia Phillies (report)

The Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies have made a trade that is sending a former third round pick from the 2020 MLB draft to the Brew Crew.  This was reported via both organizations MLB.com transaction tracker pages.

A former third round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies is heading to the Milwaukee Brewers.  

Per MLB.com utility player Casey Martin will be joining the Milwaukee Brewers.  Whom Philadelphia is acquiring in return has not yet been indicated.  Martin is 25 years old, is a super utility player with shortstop being his most played position, and he had been playing at the Phillies Double-A affiliate this season.

From 2018 to 2020 (15 games in 2020 due to COVID-19) Casey Martin recorded a career .310/.389/.542 slash line during his collegiate career.  Due to the shortened 2020 season his sophomore year (2019) was his best and that saw him hit 15 home runs, 21 doubles, and a .911 OPS across 66 games.  He ended up being drafted in the third round of the 2020 draft (five rounds total) by the Phillies and had been in their organization since.

Casey Martin career review as a professional baseball player.  

Unfortunately Casey Martin has not found success at the plate yet in his professional career.  Across four minor league seasons he has a career slash line of .198/.269/.317.   This sample size spans 1455 plate appearances.  Defensively he can play all over the diamond with shortstop being his preferred position but he also has played second base, third base, center field, right field, and even logged one inning as a catcher.

The MiLB webpage for Casey Martin indicates that he has been assigned to the Milwaukee Brewers Double-A affiliate the Biloxi Shuckers.
