The Milwaukee Brewers roster is essentially set for the 2025 season. Pitchers and catchers report in a few weeks, spring training games shortly afterwards, and then opening day will be here before we know it. With that being said, let’s take a look at which players are out of minor league options for the upcoming season.
Four Milwaukee Brewers players do not have minor league options in 2025
Looking at the Brewers roster, only four players on the 40-man roster are out of minor league options for the upcoming season. They are catcher Eric Haase, infielder Vinny Capra, reliever Joel Payamps, and reliever Nick Mears. This means that should Milwaukee want to take them off the 26-man active roster and move them to Triple-A, they will be subject to waivers prior.
There are some significant players with just one minor league option left
While not problematic this year, there are some significant players who could be in a sticky situation next year if they burn their final minor league option in 2025. Players with one minor league option left include pitchers DL Hall, Bryan Hudson, Elvis Peguero, Aaron Ashby, Trevor Megill, and Abner Uribe. Position player wise, William Contreras and Brice Turang have an option left, but barring a drastic drop off they should remain on the MLB roster all season.
How do minor league options work?
As a reminder, every player is given three minor league options upon making their MLB debut. This means that for three seasons organizations can option them between the major and minor leagues without exposing the player to waivers. Once all the options are used up, or if a player is moved from the major and minor leagues more than five times in a single season, they must be exposed to waivers. In special cases players can be granted a fourth minor league option, typically in the case of injury causing them to miss significant time.
