The Milwaukee Brewers announced the first duo of player to be called up as a part of expanded rosters in September. They have elected to call up one left-handed pitcher and one infielder to fill their 28-man roster.
LHP Clayton Andrews and INF Owen Miller are the Milwaukee Brewers two September call ups.
Milwaukee made the announcement prior to starting their series against the Philadelphia Phillies. For Andrew this will be his third time being called up to the Brewers. He made two appearances in early July and did not make it into a game the last time he was with the team in early August.
As for Owen Miller he had previously been in an every day role with the Brewers, had a batting average over .300 in mid-June, and had a 13 game hitting streak at one point. Unfortunately he fell upon hard times and was optioned to Triple-A where this minor league season he has a .678 OPS with five home runs, 27 RBI, and 13 stolen bases.
Despite these two moves the Brewer still need a starting pitcher for Saturday’s game. It is likely that spot goes to Colin Rea for he was scratched from his start with the Nashville Sounds earlier this week, but Eric Lauer is a wild card option to consider. A Robert Gasser promotion seems unlikely for he is scheduled to take the mound for the Nashville Sounds in a few hours. Additionally Julio Teheran last pitched on Thursday, so he would not be available to pitch by Saturday.
Lastly, after all of these moves the Brewers 40-man roster still stands at 39. They are likely reserving the last spot for Josh Donaldson. He signed a minor league deal with the team and reportedly can be called up whenever he feels ready.
