Milwaukee Brewers 2023 trade deadline addition Mark Canha has been a big boost to the Crews lineup since coming over from the New York Mets.  Through 38 games he a .313 batting average, .397 on-base percentage, and he has come through with some big hits.  His latest clutch heroics came against the Washington Nationals in which he hit a go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning.

Mark Canha hits a go-ahead grand slam to lift the Milwaukee Brewers over the Washington Nationals.

On Corbin Burnes day the Brewers found themselves in a five to five ball game entering the bottom of the eighth inning.  With two outs in the inning and the bases loaded Mark Canha stepped up to bat and obliterated the first pitch for a no doubt grand slam.

This grand slam from Mark Canha marked just the second of his career.  After the game he had this to say about the moment, “Hitting grand slams is cool.  To do it in that moment is cool.  Just to pick your team up and hear the crowds reaction.  All things considered it was pretty special… I just told myself to let it rip and sometimes when you tell yourself to swing hard it doesn’t work out, but I connected with that one.”

Go-ahead grand slams are quite rare, but the Brewers have had three very fond ones since 2019.  Including Mark Canha’s the other two are Daniel Vogelbachs against the St. Louis Cardinals in 2021 and Ryan Brauns in 2019 also against the Cardinals.  All three have came during September games.

Following this victory the Brewers magic number to win the National League Central was down to nine games.  That improved to eight games once the Chicago Cubs lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks.  Milwaukee also improved to 20 games over .500 and have won 13 out of their last 15 home games.
