Milwaukee Brewers ace Freddy Peralta made his first career Opening Day start on Friday against the New York Mets. His start was one for the ages as he ended up tying a franchise record that was established in 2002. Additionally the pitching staff put together a performance that saw them yield just one hit.
Freddy Peralta tied a Milwaukee Brewers franchise record established in 2002.
In 2002 Brewers Opening Day starter Ben Sheets threw six innings against the Houston Astros. He gave up nine hits, two earned runs, no walks, and struck out an Opening Day franchise record eight batters. This year Freddy Peralta tied him by throwing six innings, surrendering one one hit, one run, one walk, and eight punches out.
When Freddy Peralta is on the mound the Milwaukee Brewers have thrown five combined one-hitters since 2021.
Per Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Freddy Peralta has been involved in five total one-hitters since 2021. He has been the starting pitcher in all of these contests. Just two other teams have five total one-hitters during that span.
How about this stat?
Today was the fifth start made by Freddy Peralta in which the Brewers ultimately threw a combined one-hitter since the start of the 2021 season.
Only two other teams have at least 5 one-hitters TOTAL during that time.

Freddy Peralta put up similar numbers to Corbin Burnes on Opening Day.
Corbin Burnes, who currently pitches for the Baltimore Orioles, put together a historic Opening Day. He threw six innings against the Angels, allowed just one hit that was a home run, walked none, and struck out 11. No other pitcher has had a one-hit performance with zero walks and 10+ strikeouts on Opening Day. Freddy Peralta came close to matching this as he similarly threw six innings, gave up one hit that was a home run, but he walked one batter and struck out three fewer batters.
