The Milwaukee Brewers elected to hire their 20th manager in franchise history by promoting long time bench coach Pat Murphy. Pat Murphy, who was Craig Counsell’s coach at Notre Dame, joined the team in 2016 and until recently had been alongside his former player ever since. Now he will get the opportunity to call his own shots.
Following the news leading that the Brewers were promoting Pat Murphy to manager their star player Christian Yelich broke the silence on the decision.
Christian Yelich breaks the silence on the Milwaukee Brewers promoting Pat Murphy to manager.
On social media Christian Yelich did not say anything, but rather he endorsed the hiring of Pat Murphy by posting a photo of them together. The featured media was a picture of them after the Brewers clinched the 2023 National League Division title.

Before the hiring in June Christian Yelich had some strong and encouraging words about Pat Murphy. At the time he provided some insight as to what Brewers fans might expect from Pat Murphy in regards to his managerial “style”. In short, except lots of jokes and for him to keep things light, but also know that he is very intelligent and a great baseball mind.
“He keeps it lighthearted, which you need. … But he honestly, really knows players and knows the game of baseball. And you can’t fool him. He sees through all of the bull.”
“He watches everything and he knows everything going on. You might not think he knows it, but he does. Through all the lightheartedness and the jokes, he’s a really smart baseball mind.”

On paper Pat Murphy is a safe choice as the initial replacement to Craig Counsell. He is very familiar with the Brewers organization, is likely to retain a vast majority of the coaching staff, and knows the players. It will be interesting to see how his tenure as a manager plays out.
