A former Milwaukee Brewers outfielder has been designated for assignment (DFA’d) by a National League playoff contender. He joined this team just two to three weeks ago after the Los Angeles Angels placed him and several other players on waivers. It is unusual to see an organization cut a player loose after just 44 plate appearances but during that time he slashed just .128/.227/.205 and clearly was not making a big enough impact to remain on a playoff contending team.
Former Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Hunter Renfroe has been DFA’d by the Cincinnati Reds.
As mentioned above the Reds claimed Hunter Renfroe for virtually nothing a few weeks ago. They also grabbed Harrison Bader to help bolster their outfield group, but he is currently on the injured list. The decision to let Hunter Renfroe was made in conjunction with Stuart Fairchild being re-instated from the injured list.

Cincinnati was the sixth organization that Hunter Renfroe had been a part of since 2019. He is scheduled to be a free agent at the end of the season where he should draw a good amount of interest as a free agent. At 31 years old he still is a 20+ home run player who can provide some good run production. The downside with him is that he does not excel at getting on base.
Unfortunately for Hunter Renfroe the Reds picked him up at a point in the season where they needed instant results. He was not delivering that and this two to three week slump with Cincinnati cost him a job.
