The Milwaukee Brewers last hosted a MLB All-Star game in 2002. This was one year after the construction of Miller Park, now called American Family Field, was finished. While priority typically goes to teams with new stadiums to host All-Star games owner Mark Attansio is open to pushing for another All-Star game to come to the 4-1-4.
Milwaukee Brewers owner Mark Attansio is open to increasing the priority that the city of Milwaukee hosts another MLB All-Star game.
Per 620 WTMJ Mark Attansio is open to increasing the priority of Milwaukee hosting another MLB All-Star game. It’s been 22 years since they last hosted and currently locations are already set through 2026. This means the earliest Milwaukee could host is 2027, which would be a 25 year All-Star game drought.
“You know Rick (Schlesinger) and I, we have our list of things. It’s on our list for the commissioner’s office. It’s not the highest thing on our list, but maybe we should move it up the list.”
Milwaukee executives want to ‘finish the tie’ and make Milwaukee’s next All-Star game special.
In 2002 the All-Star game hosted at Miller Park ended in an 11 inning tie. Fans were not pleased and it overall was a low point in the history of All-Star games. Should the All-Star game return to Milwaukee executives have floated the idea of finishing the tie first. The exact seriousness of this is not known but it could potentially entail bringing guys like Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Joe Torre, and others back for an ‘old timers’ game.
Recent stadium upgrades could be a part of the Milwaukee Brewers pitch to host a future All-Star game.
Last summer MLB commissioner Rob Manfred came to Milwaukee and pointed out numerous upgrades that needed to be done to the stadium. Following this political drama ensued but upgrades have been done at American Family Field. Over the past few years they have had a new sound system put in, have a brand new second scoreboard in right field, expanded the team store, implemented a new parking system, and much more.
Hopefully Mark Attansio can leverage the upgrades done to the stadium as well as the ‘finish the tie’ aspect to having Milwaukee host another All-Star game in the near future.
