Milwaukee Brewers prospect shortstop Cooper Pratt is a rising prospect within the Brewers organization. With the updated MLB.com prospect rankings, Pratt is now ranked as the second-best prospect in Milwaukee’s organization and he is ranked 62nd overall on MLB.com.
Pratt is only 19 years old and he is not projected to reach the big leagues until the 2027 season. Cooper Pratt was a sixth-round pick (182nd overall) in the 2023 MLB Draft. He is currently playing in High-A with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
In the minor leagues this season with two different teams, he has a .287 batting average with four home runs and 39 RBIs, along with 27 stolen bases. His on-base percentage is also .378. It will be interesting to see when the second-ranked prospect for the Brewers gets called up to Double-A with the Bixoli Shuckers.
Milwaukee Brewers Cooper Pratt Could Be the Future Shortstop Over Willy Adames
Willy Adames is entering the final year of his contract with the Brewers. He is currently the starting shortstop for Milwaukee. This season, Adames has a .253 batting average with 21 home runs and 80 RBIs, along with 13 stolen bases. His on-base percentage is .335.
If the Brewers are going to re-sign him in the offseason, they can’t sign Adames to a long-term deal because Cooper Pratt will be the starting shortstop for Milwaukee a few years from now. They can’t give Willy Adames any longer than a three-year contract. The good news for the Brewers is that they’re going to take their time with the development of Pratt in the minor leagues.
Some of the scouting reports about Pratt on MLB.com are as follows:
“Given his size at 6-foot-4, penchant for showing five solid tools and home in the Deep South, Pratt drew Gunnar Henderson comparisons as he established himself on the showcase circuit and at Magnolia Heights HS (Senatobia, Miss.), the winner of 11 straight Midsouth Association of Independent Schools 5-A titles. It looked like Pratt was headed to Ole Miss before the Brewers selected him in the sixth round and signed him for 4x slot at $1.35 million, the equivalent of late-second-round money. Pratt went 16-for-45 (.356) over 12 games in the Arizona Complex League in his first taste of the pros.”
The fact that the Brewers were able to find him in the sixth round goes to show how well this organization scouts players. Pratt bats from the right side of the plate and also throws with his right hand. Catcher Jeferson Quero is the top prospect in the organization, but it won’t be long until Cooper Pratt is the top prospect in the organization.
