The Milwaukee Brewers opened up a 40-man roster spot on Halloween by outrighting a journeyman pitcher who had an incredible MLB debut at the end of the year. That player is 30 year old right-hander Caleb Boushley. He has cleared waivers and was sent to Triple-A Nashville.
Journeyman pitcher Caleb Boushley has been outrighted by the Milwaukee Brewers.
Caleb Boushley was promoted to the big leagues at the end of last season and made his MLB debut on the last Friday of the regular season against the Chicago Cubs. His debut was labeled “The Boz Show” after he covered 2.1 innings for the Crew, struck out five batters, and he earned the win as Milwaukee collected a walk-off win in extra innings.
Prior to joining the Brewers through the Minor League Rule 5 draft in 2021 the Hortonville, Wisconsin native spent five seasons in the San Diego Padres system. He has accumulated enough time in the Minor Leagues to be eligible for free agency in November unless added back onto the 40-man roster. This is his first time being outrighted from a big league roster and does not have enough MLB service time to refuse the demotion.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Caleb Boushley. At 30 years old he struggled in the Minor Leagues last year (5.11 ERA across 135 innings pitched) and he got to fulfill every baseball player’s dream by making his Major League debut. Regardless of what happens his performance against the Cubs is something that fans will remember for quite some time.
Following this transaction the Brewers 40-man roster is down to 39. Once the World Series concludes players on expiring contracts will officially become free agents and the 40-man roster will shrink in size again. This figures to be another busy off-season for Matt Arnold, so it will be interesting to see what the roster looks like come spring training.

I think the idiots at BrewCrewBall were also calling this an incredible debut.
It was actually TERRIBLE.
Two walks and a HR in 2.1 innings is NOT good pitching (despite the 5 Ks and a W). His FIP was OVER 7.
He looked awful out there and the game was a nail biter because of his bad pitching.
It’s a feel good story because he’s a WI boy, but the fact is they guy may never get another chance and probably doesn’t deserve one.
