The Milwaukee Brewers saw their win streak come to an end on Sunday, as they suffered a 4-3 loss in the series finale on the road against the Cincinnati Reds. Before that, the Brewers were on cruise control, winning five games in a row.
Brewers come up short at attempt to sweep the Reds
The Brewers ended up losing the finale after reliever Bryse Wilson gave up an infield single in the 11th inning to Santiago Espinal that paved the way for Rece Hinds to score the game-winning run.
Hinds was stationed on second base at the start of the inning as a designated runner. He was able to reach third base after Will Benson got retired on a groundout. Noelvi Marte was supposed to hit at that moment, but the Reds went with Espinal as a pinch hitter, a decision that paid off well for the Reds.
Wilson, of course, was far from happy about how things turned out for him and the Brewers.
“The outcome sucks,” Wilson said after the game, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN).
“I was happy with everything I did. Just move on, have a game tomorrow.”
The Reds got to a 2-0 lead after scoring the first two runs of the game in the second inning. The Brewers finally got on board in the third inning and tied the game up at 2-2 after Willy Adames hit a solo home run that went 400 feet deep in the fourth inning. Both teams scored in the fifth inning, and the score was tied up at 3-3 until Espinal had everyone calling it a night in extra innings.
