The Milwaukee Brewers had a trio of pitchers who sustained season ending injuries in 2024. Wade Miley and Robert Gasser both blew out their elbows, requiring surgery, and Abner Uribe tore his meniscus playing hacky-sac prior to a game. Brandon Woodruff also didn’t pitch last year, but his injury dates back to the 2023 season.
This year, Miley has moved on to the Cincinnati Reds organization, Gasser isn’t expected back until late summer, Woodruff is progressing towards throwing simulated innings, and Uribe recently made his return to live game action. In that game, Uribe managed to hit 100 MPH.
Abner Uribe hit 100 MPH during his first game back from injury

When Uribe underwent knee surgery on July 17, 2024, his meniscus was repaired. He had been through this exact same procedure a few years ago, but on the other knee. A 6-9 month recovery period ended his 2024 season, but the 24 year old has came back just as strong as he touched 100 MPH during his first spring training game.

The Milwaukee Brewers still have to work around Abner Uribe’s suspension

While it is a good sign that Uribe can still sling the ball as hard as he did prior to surgery, his start to the regular season will have to wait a minimum of four games into the year as he still has to serve a suspension. Uribe received a suspension last year for his involvement in the Jose Siri altercation, but he never got the chance to serve it.
Where does Abner Uribe fit into this year’s bullpen makeup?

Last year, Milwaukee began the season without Devin Williams as he was recovering from stress fractures in his back. Uribe got the first crack at ninth inning duties, but eventually gave way to Trevor Megill. This year, Williams is gone, but Megill is returning. It makes sense for Pat Murphy to continue with Megill as their closer, but that dynamic could change pending performance and usage.
I’d expect Uribe to get high leverage opportunities, but he may have to earn his way back into that position.
