The Milwaukee Brewers front office has been very busy to begin the off-season. Already they have announced decisions regarding several players who all had vesting options for the 2025 season. They also made a trade with the Colorado Rockies.
Decisions regarding Devin Williams and Colin Rea were among several moves made by the Milwaukee Brewers this weekend
Over November’s first weekend the Brewers announced that they are declining 2025 options on Devin Williams, Wade Miley, Gary Sanchez, and Eric Haase. These decisions made Miley and Sanchez free agents whereas Williams and Haase remain under Milwaukee’s control by means of arbitration. Williams had a $10.5 million option for the 2025 season and is projected to earn $7.7 million next year in arbitration (per MLB Trade Rumors arbitration projections).
Also announced over the weekend was that the Brewers placed Colin Rea on waivers. His 2025 club option had $5.5 million attached to it with a $1.0 million buyout. Being placed on waivers means that the 29 other teams will have the opportunity to claim him (priority based on reverse winning percentage) in which the claiming team would be responsible for his 2025 salary.
Owen Miller was traded to the Colorado Rockies
The Milwaukee Brewers also announced this weekend that they traded Wisconsin native Owen Miller to the Colorado Rockies. In return the Brewers received cash. Miller was removed from the Brewers 40-man roster in July but had remained in the organization by playing in their Minor League system.
Freddy Peralta had his 2025 option picked up and Rhys Hoskins exercised his player option
Unsurprisingly, the Brewers picked up Freddy Peralta’s $8.0 million option for the 2025 season. Rhys Hoskins also exercised his $18 million player option and pending an off-season trade he will return for another season.
Up next on the off-season agenda is GM Meetings. Those will run November 5-7. Free agency will also open up during that time frame.
