The Milwaukee Brewers have some clear needs this off-season, with starting pitching and infield upgrades being the top priorities. However, at the MLB Winter Meetings, they’ve been linked to the catching market. Insider Robert Murray broke the news.
Who do the Milwaukee Brewers currently have as options at catcher?
The Brewers are without 2024 backup catcher Gary Sanchez, who recently signed a one-year, $8.5 million deal with the Baltimore Orioles. As a result, the current depth chart includes William Contreras as the everyday catcher, Eric Haase as the backup, and top prospect Jeferson Quero. Quero is awaiting his first big league opportunity after missing the entire previous season due to shoulder surgery.
Why are the Milwaukee Brewers exploring additional options at catcher?
Last year, Eric Haase played well enough to garner being tendered a 2025 contract by Milwaukee. In a small sample size he hit .273/.304/.515, but historically his numbers are not nearly that impressive. Exploring the idea of adding another catcher would give them depth at the position should Haase falter and Quero prove to not be ready.
