Former Miami Hurricanes quarterback Tyler Van Dyke commits to the Wisconsin Badgers football program after playing for Miami for the past four seasons. Van Dyke put his name in the transfer portal on November 27. His decision came rather quickly.

In the past three years, he appeared in 30 total games for the Miami Hurricanes. Van Dyke threw for 7,469 yards passing, 54 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions in that span. His record was just 15-13 as the starter and lost his job to freshman Emory Williams before the Florida State Game. Van Dyke actually got his starting job back after Williams broke his left forearm in the loss against Florida State.
Tyler Van Dyke changing places for the 2024 college football season made sense for him. In 2023 alone, Van Dyke completed 65.8% of his passes for 2,703 yards passing, 19 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. It will be interesting to see how Van Dyke does in Phil Longo’s offense next season considering the fact he is not very mobile at all.
Tanner Mordecai transferred from SMU last season and he was the starting quarterback for the Wisconsin Badgers a little bit before he got hurt. It didn’t work out as planned for Wisconsin. Hopefully, Tyler Van Dyke can be better in 2024 than Mordecai was this season.
Some of the other quarterbacks in the room for the Badgers are Braedyn Locke (did start three games for the Wisconsin Badgers this season for them), Nick Evers, Cole LaCrue, and incoming freshman Mabrey Mettauer. It is a good thing that Tyler Van Dyke transferred to the Wisconsin Badgers because it is clear who will be the starting quarterback for Luke Fickell’s squad in 2024.
Wisconsin Badgers Fans React to Tyler Van Dyke Committing
Van Dyke committing to Wisconsin for the 2024 season came out of nowhere. He has a lot to prove next season after transferring from the Miami Hurricanes. A lot of people reacted on Twitter to the Badgers bringing him in for next season.
There were a lot of strong opinions on Wisconsin’s addition of Tyler Van Dyke through the portal, and everyone is entitled to them.
But let’s not write off a kid that the staff coveted, has pedigree, and an accomplished resume at a Power 5 program before he can prove himself.

Given UW’s history with QB transfers, Tyler Van Dyke seems closer to Danny O’Brien than Russell Wilson. Outside of 2021 (ACC Rookie of the Year), Van Dyke has been just a ‘guy’ .. pretty average at Miami. Tanner Mordecai’s running opened up Air Raid. But this dude isn’t a runner. https://t.co/833U5pEKEQ

The last time that the Badgers won the BIG10 title was in 2012. They won it in 2011 also when Russell Wilson was the transfer quarterback from North Carolina State. Wisconsin hopes Van Dyke can have the same success, but it appears as if the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Penn State Nittany Lions, and the Michigan Wolverines will be better than them next season at least.
Van Dyke will have a chip on his shoulder. He hopes to have success with the Badgers in 2024.
