The Marquette Golden Eagles fans and other fans of college basketball were watching the Colorado State Rams and the Virginia Cavaliers First Four Game on Tuesday night in Dayton, Ohio. They both were 10 seeds and the winner of this game would be moving on to face the #7 Texas Longhorns on Thursday.
The Rams defeated the Cavaliers easily by a final score of 67-42. Virginia only scored 14 points in the first half and 14 points were trending on Twitter. Many Marquette Golden Eagles fans and other college basketball fans had to respond on Twitter to the horrendous performance by Virginia.
Before the NCAA Tournament began, Marquette Golden Eagles head coach Shaka Smart and UCONN Huskies head coach Dan Hurley gave their thoughts about only three Big East teams in the NCAA Tournament and both of them were correct.
Marquette Golden Eagles Fans and Other College Basketball Fans Respond on Twitter to the Horrendous Virginia Cavaliers
When Virginia only scored 14 points at the half, a lot of fans were typing things onto their respective Twitter accounts. Everyone seemed to agree that the Cavaliers did not belong in the NCAA Tournament this season despite winning 23 games before the Big Dance.
They finished third in the ACC. What does that say about the conference this season? It was not very good to begin with and the fact that the only three teams in the Big East to make the tournament were the UCONN Huskies, the Marquette Golden Eagles, and the Creighton Blue Jays was laughable. Here is what fans had to say about Virginia on Tuesday night:
My intramural team could’ve scored more than 14 in a half

So glad a St. John’s team that put 90 points up against the overall No. 1 seed four days ago wasn’t allowed to participate in this tournament that would never do pic.twitter.com/chiguNj2JZ

Marquette fans, college basketball fans, St. John’s basketball star Joel Soriano, and others all came onto Twitter for one common goal on Tuesday night. It was to trash the NCAA selection committee for picking the Virginia Cavaliers to make the NCAA Tournament over teams like St. John’s, Providence, Seton Hall, Indiana State, and Pittsburgh.
The Virginia Cavaliers have not won an NCAA Tournament game under head coach Tony Bennett since 2019 when they won it all. What a hot topic this was.
