Marquette Golden Eagles head coach Shaka Smart is happy to have Kam Jones on his basketball team. Jones is averaging 16.8 PPG this season and it leads Marquette. In the last six games with Tyler Kolek sidelined, he scored a total of 125 points and averaged 20.8 points per game in that stretch for the Golden Eagles.
Kam Jones helped the Golden Eagles to a 25-9 record before the NCAA Tournament this season. Marquette is a number two seed for the second consecutive season. He is also one of the reasons why the Golden Eagles offense was good even with Kolek sidelined. Marquette got back to the Big East Conference Championship Game for the second consecutive season before losing to the UCONN Huskies.

On Sunday night, head coach Shaka Smart spoke to CBS Sports Jon Rothstein and told him about Kam Jones’s scoring ability:
“He’s a special player. … He got that Memphis flare to him. He can put that ball in the basket. … I would take him over just about anybody and I’m really grateful to have him on our team.”
Kam Jones of the Marquette Golden Eagles Was Left Off the All-Big East Teams This Season

Last season, Kam Jones made it to the second-team All-Big East. This season, he was not named for either the first team or the second team, let alone honorable mention. That came as a surprise after Jones led the team in scoring and Marquette also had one of the better teams in the Big East Conference.
Tyler Kolek was named to the All-Big East Team for Marquette for the second consecutive season and Oso Ighodaro was also named to the second All-Big East Team for the Golden Eagles this season. For Marquette to make a run deep into March, Jones is going to have to be the primary scorer despite Tyler Kolek also being another player who can score the basketball.

Jones can score in so many different ways. During the Big East Tournament, he set Twitter ablaze when he potentially hit the game-winning shot as time expired against the Villanova Wildcats, but the basket was waived off and they went on to win the game in overtime anyway. Jones will be one of the most dangerous scorers throughout the NCAA Tournament for the Golden Eagles.
