On Friday, the Marquette Golden Eagles Big East Conference schedule was announced for the upcoming 2023-2024 regular season. Marquette won the Big East regular season title with a 17-3 record in conference play a season ago and also won the Big East Tournament. They had a 29-7 overall record last season under head coach Shaka Smart before losing in Round Two of the NCAA Tournament against the Michigan State Spartans.

The Marquette Golden Eagles were one of the number two seeds in the tournament last season because of their success in the conference. Marquette hopes to repeat its success this season after bowing out to a seventh seed. The Golden Eagles will be one of the favorites to win the conference again this season.

The first conference game this season will be on the road on December 19 against the Providence Friars, and their first home conference game will be against the Georgetown Hoyas on December 22. Other than those two matchups this season, who are some of the teams to look forward to this season?

    Lots of opportunities ahead!

Tip times and TV info expected next week.#MUBB | #WeAreMarquette pic.twitter.com/jVTLBDIixx

The Villanova Wildcats did not make the NCAA Tournament last season under head coach Kyle Neptune and made the NIT instead. This was the first season that they did not have Jay Wright as head coach anymore. Villanova will look to be a much better basketball team this season after making the Final Four just two years ago.

The Marquette Golden Eagles will have no pushover when it comes to this matchup because the BIG East will not have any easy games this season. It appears as if we are turning back the clock with this conference heading into the 2023-2024 season. The two times they will meet are on January 15 and January 30.

    UCONN Huskies

The UCONN Huskies won the National Championship a season ago and will be big-time challengers for the Marquette Golden Eagles in 2023-2024. UCONN will be one of the best teams in the country this season, and it could come down to these matchups for potential seeding in the NCAA Tournament come March.

Speaking of March, they will host the Huskies on March 6, and the other meeting between these two teams this season will be on February 17. Dan Hurley is the head coach of UCONN, and these will be epic battles this season.

The St. John’s Red Storm is the new kid on the block, with a marquee matchup at Madison Square Garden in New York City on January 20. St. John’s will have several matchups in Big East Conference play this season there. This is one of the venues that new head coach Rick Pitino envisioned.

This is probably Pitino’s last stop in college basketball after leading the Iona Gaels to a couple of NCAA Tournament appearances in the MAAC.  The other matchup that these two teams will have will be played on February 10. The Marquette Golden Eagles better be ready for this one because the Red Storm is coming.
