The fifth-ranked Marquette Golden Eagles and Kam Jones wasted no time getting into the win column against the Northern Illinois Huskies on Monday night by winning 92-70. Junior Kam Jones led the team by scoring 20 points and was one of four Marquette players in double digits. They had a 50-28 lead at halftime.

Jones also grabbed three rebounds and four assists. The other three players who scored in double figures were Tyler Kolek with 14 points, Oso Ighodaro with 13 points, and Chase Ross with 12 points off the bench.
Before the game on Monday night against Northern Illinois, they revealed the Big East Championship Banner. Marquette is going to be a very deep basketball team this season. Kam Jones was preseason all-second-team Big East, and this game showed why he could very well be on the All-Big East team at the end of the year.

Golden Eagles head coach Shaka Smart told Ben Steele of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel after the game about Kam Jones’s 20-point performance by saying:
“He scored 20 tonight without breaking much of a sweat on the offensive end. I did think he had some good defensive possessions. Which is an area where we’ve really challenged him. But he’s a heck of a player. Maybe in a different game with a different mentality, he plays 33-34 minutes and he scores 30 points. But I love the fact that, for the most part, our guys played unselfishly. They played to help one another.”
Kam Jones and the Marquette Golden Eagles Will Be Deep This Year and Very Good All Season Long

This is just the first game of the 2023-2024 college basketball season, but the Marquette Golden Eagles will be in good hands all season long with the depth that they have for this basketball team. There will be nights where Jones drops 20 points, and there will also be nights where Tyler Kolek does the same.
Chase Ross scoring 12 points was his career high off the bench, and he could be a candidate for the sixth man of the year award in the conference. Head coach Shaka Smart said to Steele about Ross:
“The thing about Chase is you just want him out there. In so many situations on offense and on defense.”
The Golden Eagles’ next game will be against the Rider Broncos on Friday, November 10. Will see what this deep basketball team does for an encore.
