Lane Taylor who started the season off at left guard and eventually lost his Job to rookie standout Elgton Jenkins, after an injury, has reworked his contract with the Packers the move frees up around three million in cap space. With Elgton Jenkins playing at an all pro level, not allowing a single sack according to “Pro Football Focus,” Lane Taylor will not be starting at left guard next season. However, the right side of the line may be where he can earn his spot.
Right Guard and Tackle
Perhaps the biggest hit for the Packers was losing Bryan Bulaga. To replace him, the team signed Rick Wagner from the Lions. Last season the team signed Billy Turner to play right guard. Turner had struggles at the position last season, but for the most part got the job done. Now with Wagner supposedly being the starting right tackle, the Packers will probably make Taylor fight for the starting job at right guard with Billy Turner. Taylor has been a starter since 2016 and definitely has the skill set to be a productive guard. Taylor vs Turner will be a great battle throughout camp. The Packers can still cut Taylor but will take a significantly less hit. Taylor can still earn one and a half million through incentives next season.
Overall
It’s still a possibility that the Packers could cut Taylor if he is unable to earn the starting job. The team drafted three offensive linemen in the draft and may not be able to take an extra lineman on the 53 man roster.
As Always
What do you think about Lane Taylor’s pay cut? Will he make the 53 man roster?
