Kam Jones erupted for 34 points in a 105-71 win for the #4 Marquette Golden Eagles over the DePaul Blue Demons on Wednesday night. Jones on the season for Marquette has played in 25 games and is averaging 15.1 PPG, 2.6 RPG, 2.1 APG, 0.1 BPG, and 0.8 SPG.
Kam Jones is only a junior this year and is 6’5″ and weighs 200 lbs. He is the starting shooting guard on this basketball team. Jones will have one more year left of eligibility and it will be interesting to see whether or not he will declare for the NBA Draft in 2024.
He is also shooting 48.5% from the field this season and 39.2% from three-point land. Outside of Tyler Kolek, Kam Jones is the best scorer on this basketball team. They have so many different players that can score the basketball that they can make a deep run in March. Marquette has not been to the Final Four in over 20 seasons and this might be their best shot to do it under head coach Shaka Smart.
His teammate, Oso Ighodaro, is also projected to be a second-round selection in the 2024 NBA Draft, according to Bleacher Report.
Bleacher Report Predicts That Kam Jones of the Marquette Golden Eagles Will Be the Last Selection of the 2024 NBA Draft
Last week, Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report made a two-round NBA Mock Draft in 2024. He predicts that Jones is going to be the last pick (58th overall selection) in the 2024 NBA Draft a second-round pick. Kam Jones is predicted to be drafted by the Charlotte Hornets (via Celtics).
Charlotte has been one of the worst teams in the NBA as of late. There only star player on the roster is LaMelo Ball and it will be interesting to see how much longer he will be on the Hornets’ roster for. Ball is a very good player with a big brand, who deserves to be in a better market.
Wasserman wrote about Jones being selected last by the Hornets by saying:
“Kam Jones has been too streaky to generate serious draft buzz, but some inconsistency this year doesn’t negate the explosive shot-making skill. He just hit seven-of-nine threes against Georgetown, also demonstrating some bonus shot-creation and slashing to go with the shooting. The off-ball scoring and excellent finishing could help him look like a fit for a team searching for complementary offense.”
One of the things that helps Jones is that Tyler Kolek is passing the basketball to him. Kolek will be gone from Marquette after this season because he is a senior. Kam Jones will probably test the NBA waters after this season. It is possible he will not decide to go to the NBA after this season and play another season of college basketball with the Golden Eagles.
