The Green Bay Packers’ division rivals, the Chicago Bears, made the decision to draft Justin Fields with the 11th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. While the speedy quarterback out of Ohio State had huge upside potential, he hasn’t panned out… at all. Fields has shown a lot of promise with his run game, but his arm simply isn’t good enough to be elite in the NFL. More importantly, he hasn’t been good enough to win games, even with talent added around him.
Justin Fields Still Hasn’t Conquered the Green Bay Packers in his Third NFL Season
Since being drafted in 2021, Fields has yet to beat the Packers. Already playing once this season, the Bears fell to 0-5 against the Packers in the Fields era. To make matters worse for Fields, all of these losses have come after a questionable quote from Fields. On August 14, after his preseason debut, Fields claimed that the NFL was “kind of slow” to him.
Since that quote, the Packers have outscored the Bears 162-93, including a 38-20 victory this season. Aaron Rodgers even thanked Jordan Love for continuing their ownership of the Bears. While this was a joke, it is very, very true. The Packers are 23-4 against the Bears since 2010. That’s just about one win every four seasons for the Bears which is not ideal for Chicago.
Based on these statistics, it’s fairly obvious the Bears have had a history of bad quarterbacks. After last season, many people thought this wouldn’t be the case for Fields. Unfortunately, through three games Fields has been just that. Entering week four, Fields has more interceptions than he does passing touchdowns. To make matters worse for Fields, he has the 34th-best quarterback rating this season. There are only 32 starting quarterbacks in the NFL.
If Fields keeps playing this poorly, it’s almost certain he will be replaced in this year’s draft. Chicago could even tank to get Caleb Williams from USC, the No. 1 ranked quarterback in college. After starting 0-3, tanking for Williams may be their best bet. They have some talent on the offense now, so adding a young quarterback who’s portrayed some of the most unbelievable talent we’ve seen in college football history could make them a scary team. That would seemingly suck for the Packers, but their track record against Chicago proves that they can beat them no matter who’s throwing the ball.
