Jordan Love is a “Lock” to Play

Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman (@mikefreemanNFL) has reported that Jordan Love could see a significant role in the Packers’ offense this upcoming season. Love obviously won’t be taking Rodgers position, but at first instinct Taysom Hill comes to mind. Let’s take a look at the possible help Jordan Love could provide to the offense.

    Taysom Hill

It’s possible the Packers are trying to save face after backlash from the fan base after selecting a quarterback in the first round. However, the Packers missed out on Taysom Hill after cutting him prior to the start of the 2017 season. The league has seen what Taysom Hill can do in New Orleans, can Jordan Love be a similar player in Matt LaFluer’s offense?

Jordan Love is 6’4, 224 pounds, which isn’t much different from Taysom Hill who is 6’2, 221 pounds. The difference comes when you look at the speed. Hill runs a 4.44 second 40 yard dash, while Love runs a 4.74. Hill’s speed is a big asset in how the Saints utilize him on special teams and offense. However, on solely offense Love could prove to be a great gadget player in his first year. Love had nine rushing touchdowns in his college career with 403 yards. Although these numbers are not the most impressive, he does show the ability to use his legs effectively. It’s unseen if Love can be of any value as a pass catcher like Taysom Hill, but LaFluer could include some designed runs for the quarterback which has been relatively unseen in the Packers offense over the years.

    Overall

Whether the Packers use Love in the offense is going to be a story all through the off season. The team has invested in the quarterback when many believe that they were one or two weapons away from being a Super Bowl team. If Matt LaFluer can add packages with Love on the field that catch defenses off guard, he may prove to be a valuable piece in his rookie year, while also getting to learn the quarterback position from Aaron Rodgers.

    As Always

What do you think the Packers will do with Jordan Love in his rookie year? Will the team use him like the Saints use Taysom Hill?
