A Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver is grabbing attention during training camp, and he’s already drawing comparisons to a legend from the team’s recent history.
The Packers need some of their rookies to step up on offense this season. The Packers will have Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs returning for their second season. Every other pass catcher on the starting lineup will be a rookie.
During the team’s first few practices at training camp, Quarterback Jordan Love struggled to connect with his receivers. Things improved for Love Saturday. However, the defense is still winning the important battles.
Jayden Reed is being compared to a Green Bay Packers legend

But one rookie on the offense could potentially start to tilt the scales back in the offense’s favor. According to Matt Schneidman with The Athletic, second-round pick Jayden Reed has made some explosive plays in camp, and some of his play is being compared to Randall Cobb.
Reed scored a touchdown during a red zone drill on Thursday. He also made a big play on an end-around toss where his speed beat out second-year linebacker Quay Walker. Reed will likely be Cobb’s replacement in the slot this season. Per Schneidman’s report, running back AJ Dillon talked about the similarities between Cobb and Reed:
“Obviously, I never played with Cobby back when he was going crazy tearing up the NFC, but I’ve seen the tapes,” Dillon said. “I used to watch the Packers play. I know that comparison has been drawn.
Definitely not gonna disrespect Cobby by saying somebody who just got here is at that level, but there are definitely a lot of things that are reminiscent of the style. Jayden’s a really good kid.
He comes from a really great family from the people that I’ve gotten to meet, so I know he’s got his head screwed on straight and he’s ready to work and he always comes with a positive attitude and obviously, everybody else sees the measurables and sees how fast he is and he can catch and fly around, so sky’s the limit for him.”

That’s high praise from Dillon to the Packers rookie. The Packers’ offense will need time to gel before they are good. However, the future could be dangerous with the combination of a super-fast Watson and Reed.
But how far they go will depend on Love’s arm.
