The Green Bay Packers are adding a former Detroit Lions kicker to their roster before training camp. The move came after the Lions waived a kicker this week when they signed a star kicker from the UFL that the Packers had an interest in.
The Green Bay Packers released Jack Podlesny on Wednesday
As previously discussed on WSH, the Lions signed Jake Bates. Following his stellar season in the UFL, the Packers requested to host Bates for a tryout, but Bates chose to sign with the Lions. On Wednesday, the Packers released Jack Podlesny.
The release of Podlesny left the Packers set with Anders Carlson and Greg Joseph for a kicking battle in training camp. They added another kicker on Thursday.
The Packers are signing James Turner
According to Mike Garafolo with the NFL Network, the Packers claimed James Turner off waivers. Turner was a member of Michigan’s 2023 National Championship team. Last season, he went 65-66 on extra points and made 18 of his 21 field goal attempts.
Per Sports Illustrated, Turner received praise this spring for his accuracy during Lions practices.
