The Green Bay Packers needed extra depth to their secondary this offseason; they added to it following Saturday’s rookie minicamp practice. The Packers started their rookie minicamp on Friday, giving their new draftees and undrafted rookie free agents a chance to show their skills and learn the scheme of head coach Matt LaFleur’s staff. One player made a good impression this weekend.
The Green Bay Packers sign a cornerback
According to Aaron Wilson with KPRC, the Packers signed William Hooper to the roster.

Hooper was a second-team Southland All-Conference cornerback last season. He played in 35 games during his four-year career at Northwestern State. Hooper recorded three interceptions, defended nine passes, caused one forced fumble, earned two sacks, and made 71 total tackles in that span.
Film of Hooper shows him using his hands to block the ball from reaching a receiver’s hands. It’s a technique that’s often taught to members of the secondary but isn’t always followed through.
One aspect that stands out in newly signed cornerback William Hooper’s game is his hands. He’s always putting them up to block the ball from reaching a receivers hands. #Packers pic.twitter.com/EwiqcI8KUO

Hooper will join a secondary that could use some depth this season. He could also help on special teams. Hooper was a cornerback in college. The Packers, who have not signed Adrian Amos’ replacement, could still use a safety. Hooper has the height to play safety but would need to bulk up his 185-pound frame if the Packers wanted to use him there.
