The Green Bay Packers need to sign some help for the safety position after losing Adrian Amos to free agency this offseason. The Packers took safety Anthony Johnson Jr., in the 2023 NFL Draft. However, the seven-round pick will unlikely be a day-one starter this season. The Packers were keeping the door open to re-sign Amos this offseason, but he’s being linked to other places in the league, including inside the division.
Could Adrian Amos be with another NFC North team in 2023?
Alyssa Barbieri with USA Today wrote about 20 players that could fit the Chicago Bears’ needs. The Bears have Eddie Jackson and Jaquan Brisker as their starting safeties. However, Barbieri noted the Bears could use some depth at safety:
“Now, the third wave of free agency is underway, where general manager Ryan Poles has an opportunity to address some positions that still need attention following the draft, including edge rusher and adding depth at safety, offensive line, defensive line, tight end and cornerback.”
They listed Adrian Amos as a target for the Bears to bring back to Chicago.
The Bears drafted Amos in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He stayed with the Bears throughout the 2018 season. He probably wouldn’t be a starter for the Bears next season. However, he could play a role in their improving secondary. The Bears saw Jackson and Brisker deal with injuries last season. Amos could be a strong backup if one of those players were to go down.
The Packers, who handed safety Brian Branch to the Detroit Lions Friday, need to sign help at the position in free agency. Amos would be the obvious choice, but other teams will be interested.
