Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver James Jones got honest about his thoughts on Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields.
Although the Steelers are undefeated through three games in the 2024 NFL regular season, all with Fields starting in place of the injured Russell Wilson, Jones remains a believer in the notion that the Super Bowl-winning quarterback is still the best option under center for the AFC North franchise.
“When you turn on the tape, the young fella’s playing really, really well. But my answer is no, because as long as Russell Wilson is on that team, until the Pittsburgh Steelers trade Russell Wilson, because I do believe Russell Wilson is not going to be on this team for the whole year,” the former Packers wideout said during a recent The Facility episode.

Ex-Green Bay Packers WR speaks up about Pittsburgh Steelers QB situation

Jones, who played for the Packers from 2007 to 2013 and in 2015, made that comment after the Steelers beat the Los Angeles Chargers last Sunday at home, 20-10. Against the Bolts, Fields passed for 245 yards and a touchdown with an interception on 25-of-32 completions.

To some extent, the Packers and the Steelers are going through the same situation, with Malik Willis acting as Green Bay’s placeholder while Jordan Love is healing up from a knee injury. However, there is no debate in Green Bay about who should be starting for the team when both quarterbacks are healthy. It is always going to be Love even though the Packers are undefeated through two games that Willis has started.
