The Green Bay Packers have mostly dominated the NFC North since the 1990s. The Detroit Lions have been attempting to flip that script though, earning their first division title in the NFC North and first conference championship appearance in 30 years in 2023. After a productive offseason stretch for the Detroit Lions, they look to start a stretch of dominance in the NFC North. However, this may be getting more difficult as of next season as one of their starting cornerbacks is currently evading arrest from a Florida police department.
Cam Sutton Issued Arrest Warrant
Cameron Sutton is an NFL starting cornerback for the Detroit Lions. According to the Hillsborough Police Department, he has a warrant out for his arrest under the citation of domestic violence/ aggravated battery.

There are reports of the 29-year-old cornerback strangling his significant other and throwing her out of a third-story window, though these reports are not confirmed. What is confirmed is that on March 7th the Hillsborough Police Department in Florida issued a warrant for Sutton’s arrest for one count of aggravated battery-domestic violence for an incident in Lutz, Florida, a suburb in Tampa.
“We served his warrant on the seventh because of all the evidence that we found there,” Martello said. “Couldn’t find him here in Tampa, pretty sure he fled. We got a couple hits on his license plate (on) license plate readers, but haven’t been able to track him down here, so that’s where we’re at right now.
“They’ve attempted to make contact with him, can’t get him on the phone, so they’ve released — our detectives have exhausted everything to try and get ahold of him and that’s why we end up putting the stuff on social media.”
Cameron Sutton’s Impact On The Detroit Lions And Green Bay Packers
Cameron Sutton signed a three-year deal with the Detroit Lions in the 2023 offseason worth 33 million dollars. In his first season as the starting corner under the new deal, he underperformed, particularly late in the season and into the postseason. If the Detroit Lions were to cut him over the ongoing legal case, Sutton would charge their cap hit over 10 million dollars for the 2024-25 season.
In Sutton’s three games against the Green Bay Packers, he totaled just 5 total tackles and no interceptions with a 1-2 record. The idea that Sutton’s absence from the Lions would affect the Green Bay Packers game plan much is unlikely due to his negligible impact on the field in their times seeing him.
A cut/arrest would likely change the Detroit Lions’ philosophy for their first-round picks, likely looking for more help in the cornerback room than the presumed wide receiver or edge rusher. It is a complicated situation that implies a lot for the people involved in the criminal investigation and the teams involved with the player.
Everyone should wish for the woman’s health, both mental and physical, to be preserved. Cameron Sutton needs to be found and detained to ensure his and others’ health and safety, as well as execute due process on the arrest warrant he was issued.
The Green Bay Packers organization cannot do much other than observe the on-field ramifications this may have for the Detroit Lions.
