The NFL has officially entered its 2024 offseason, during which teams have already begun scouting and building their draft boards for the upcoming draft. The Green Bay Packers are currently holding the 25th pick in the draft and are looking to enhance their team even further. Fans and experts alike have started creating mock drafts, which they share on social media. Although it may be too early to tell, here is a list of potential players who may be drafted in the first round.
Green Bay Packers Select Cooper DeJean
The Green Bay Packers weak point is defensive back. In 2023 we saw the Packers struggle with tackling and covering receivers. One of the players predicted to be picked is defensive back Cooper DeJean from Iowa. Cooper DeJean, who was a highly-touted recruit with a 3-star rating from ESPN, has made an impressive trajectory since joining Iowa.
During his third year in college, he had 30 tackles, seven assists, ten stops, three pass breakups, and two interceptions. He also had an impressive QB rating of 40.6 when targeted throughout ten games. As a result of his outstanding performance, he was named a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and Jim Thorpe Award. He was also recognized as a Consensus All-American in 2023.
Troy Fautanu
Troy Fautanu, a 3-star recruit from Liberty High School as an offensive lineman. He would chose to join Washington after graduating. During his junior year, Fautanu was part of the action in 12 games and played a total of 866 snaps. He predominantly played at left tackle and gave up 12 QB hurries and 2 QB hits. He did not allow any sacks during the season. In his senior year, Fautanu played in 13 games, accumulating a total of 845 snaps. He played primarily at left tackle and allowed 15 QB hurries, 2 QB hits, and two sacks.
The Green Bay Packers do an incredible job developing lineman. With the uncertainty of David Bakhtiari, the team will look to have some security on the offensive line.
Kalen King
Defensive back, Kalen King, from Cass Technical High School, joined Penn State’s 2021 class as a notable member with a four-star recruit. In his first year he played in 12 games, recording 21 tackles and three pass breakups over 279 snaps. In his sophomore year, he played in 12 games again and recorded 24 tackles, nine pass breakups, and two interceptions. He played a total of 498 snaps with a quarterback rating of 59.3 when targeted. King was named to the Pro Football Focus All-Big Ten first team and received third-team All-Big Ten honors.
