The Green Bay Packers are heading into their Bye Week with a record of 2-3 following their incredibly frustrating loss on Monday night to the Las Vegas Raiders. For the third game in a row, the Packers’ offense was unable to score a touchdown in the first half. It is the first time since 1990 that Green Bay has gone three games without scoring a touchdown before halftime.
After the game, there was a great deal of criticism of the offense, and rightly so. Head coach Matt LaFleur has been promising for weeks that they will improve, yet the same mistakes, both in execution and game planning, keep on occurring.
Jaire Alexander made headlines after the game with his comments about how the defense needs to be perfect if they are to win games. He also had an unique idea on how to improve the offense.
Jaire Alexander Suggests that the Green Bay Packers Could Put Him in on Offense
There were a lot of people who took Alexander’s comments about the defense having to be better out of context. He was not trying to slam the offense. Rather, he was saying that while the young offense figures out who they are, the veteran defense needs to pick up their slack.
He also had a [not so serious] suggestion about how the offense can get better:

“I’m not on the offensive side of the ball, so I can’t really speak on that. But I mean, you can put me on offense, or the defense needs to be better. You know? The defense has to be more self-critical.”
Of course, Alexander was joking. He is far too valuable on defense to split his snaps with the offense. Additionally, the young players on offense need all of the experience they can get.
Alexander knows that; but it also spotlights how valuable having a veteran on that side of the ball would be.
The Green Bay Packers Already Used One Defensive Player on Offense This Season
The Packers have been working with one defensive player, Keisean Nixon, on some offensive plays since the preseason began. Rob Demovsky posted this video on Twitter (X) back in July showing Nixon practicing with the offense:
No, CB/KR Keisean Nixon wasn’t lost. He was supposed to be down with the offense catching passes.
Rare to see a green jersey with the offensive guys but Matt LaFleur suggested this offseason he might consider giving the All Pro return man some snaps. pic.twitter.com/nJeLre6ACz

In Green Bay’s 18-17 win over the New Orleans Saints, Nixon finally got a shot to put his work on offense to work. He was given one carry, which he broke for 11 yards.
The Greatest Two-Way Player in Green Bay Packers History
The game of football played in today’s NFL is a far cry from the style of play that was put on the field decades ago. Many players used to play both offense and defense.
While Don Hutson is remembered for revolutionizing the wide receiver position (and still holds several NFL and Packers records), he was also a phenomenal defensive back.
In 1940, Hutson had 645 receiving yards and led the NFL with seven touchdowns. He was also named a First Team All Pro and Pro Bowl receiver. In addition, Hutson led the NFL with six interceptions on defense (while also making 15 of 16 extra point attempts as the team’s kicker).
For his career, Hutson had 30 interceptions as a defensive player, more than several Hall of Famers including Darrelle Revis.
