The Green Bay Packers dropped a frustrating game to the Atlanta Falcons 25-24. There were many things that went right early in the game, but the fourth quarter defense and the offense’s inability to pick up a single first down ultimately cost them the game.
Quarterback Jordan Love was not perfect, but he did throw three more touchdown passes, did not turnover the ball, and finished the game with a 113.5 passer rating. He completed just 14 of 25 passes, but going into the horribly mismanaged final series, he had a 66% passer rating.
In other words, Love played a fairly decent game. Not perfect, but far from bad. The same can be said about his Week One performance against the Chicago Bears.
The fact of the matter is that Love has thrown for more touchdown passes (six) in his first two starts as the Packers’ number one quarterback than Brett Favre (four) and Aaron Rodgers (four).
Yet, one NFL reporter does not believe that Love will be back in Green Bay next year as the starting quarterback.
NFL Reporter Benjamin Allbright Does Not Think Jordan Love Will Be Back with the Green Bay Packers in 2024
For those unfamiliar, Benjamin Allbright is a NFL reporter who covers the Denver Broncos for iHeart Media. In 2021, he reported that Aaron Rodgers wanted to play in Denver. In 2022, he reported that “Everyone in the league knows that no one in Green Bay believes in Jordan Love.”
In other words, his reputation for reporting facts is less than ideal.
After the Packers’ loss, one more of his opinions (that he wholeheartedly believes to be facts) can be added onto the pile of his horrendous takes:
I don’t think he or Love will be QBing those teams next year anyway, so https://t.co/oZXRBwzJVp
— Benjamin Allbright (@AllbrightNFL) September 17, 2023
To be clear: Benjamin Allbright of KOA Colorado does not think the Packers will want Love back as their starting quarterback next year, nor does he think the Atlanta Falcons will bring back Desmond Ridder.
This is, of course, complete and utter nonsense for numerous reasons.
1. The Green Bay Packers Burned a Bridge with Aaron Rodgers Because They Want Jordan Love as Their Quarterback
The whole Rodgers versus Packers drama has been covered at nauseum. There is no need to dig into the history and rehash it all.
But what is clear is that if Green Bay did not think Love could be the starting quarterback for their team for years to come, they never would have burned the bridge with Rodgers. They drafted Love, developed him, and now they’re going to sink or swim with him.
There is also that small, but important, detail that he is under contract for 2024.
2. Jordan Love Has Been Good
Has he been perfect? No. Will he make mistakes? Yes. But the fact of the matter is that Love has thrown six touchdown passes in the first two games of the season, joining Favre, Rodgers, and Lynn Dickey as the only quarterbacks in team history to accomplish that feat. He is the first to do so in his first year as the starter.
The worst anyone can say about Love over the first two weeks is that he has look rather average at times. If average is his floor, imagine what the ceiling is.
3. The Green Bay Packers Will Not Start Over at Quarterback
Love sat for three years behind Rodgers because they wanted him to be ready when his time came. Rodgers sat behind Favre for three years because they wanted him to be ready. Favre started out as a backup to Don Majkowski and didn’t start until the former Pro Bowler went down with an injury.
Green Bay is not going to sign a big-name veteran and they certainly are not going to draft another quarterback project. Suggesting they would do so displays an inept grasp of the way Green Bay does things.
