The Green Bay Packers are going to have a very different quarterback room than the one they might have envisioned themselves having when the 2024 NFL offseason began. With Jordan Love firmly entrenched as their starting quarterback, the Packers brought back 2023 fifth-round pick Sean Clifford, who served as Love’s backup last season. They also drafted Tulane’s Michael Pratt in the seventh-round of the 2024 NFL Draft to add competition to the backup role.
With head coach Matt LaFleur choosing to play Love for fewer than a handful of plays in this preseason, both Clifford and Pratt were given every opportunity to earn the job. Unfortunately, neither proved to be good enough.
The Green Bay Packers Traded for Malik Willis from the Tennessee Titans
In Green Bay’s final preseason game, for example, Clifford was 6/14 for 53 yards and a touchdown pass. Pratt was not much better, going 8/12 for 80 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.
Earlier this week, on Monday to be exact, news broke that the Packers were sending a 2025 seventh-round pick to the Tennessee Titans for Malik Willis. The expectation, at the time of the trade, was that Willis would be named the team’s backup over both Clifford and Pratt.
And that is exactly what happened on Tuesday when the Packers decided to cut both of the quarterbacks that they drafted in the last two offseasons as they trimmed their roster to 53 players.
Earlier today, it was reported that Clifford is being re-signed onto Green Bay’s practice squad.

Pratt, however, was allowed to sign elsewhere, and he did so with an NFC rival.
Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Michael Pratt Is Signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
According to Pewter Report, which has covered the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for many years, the NFC South contender is signing Pratt to their practice squad:
The #Bucs are signing former Tulane QB Michael Pratt to their practice squad. Pratt was the No. 3 QB in Green Bay and was released.
The #Buccaneers were interested in Pratt as a late Day 3 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Pratt replaces John Wolford as QB3 in Tampa Bay.

Pratt joins a quarterback room that features Baker Mayfield as the starter and Kyle Trask as the backup. As the Pewter Report points out above, the Buccaneers were interested in Pratt before and during the NFL Draft.
Pratt is coming off of a senior season at Tulane that saw him complete 65.4% of his passes for 2,406 yards, 22 touchdowns, and five interceptions.
