CJ Stroud Says the Green Bay Packers Would Have Won More Super Bowls with a Rival Quarterback Instead of Aaron Rodgers

The Green Bay Packers have won more NFL Championships than any other team in the league. There is a reason why Green Bay, Wisconsin is known as Titletown, after all. Before the Super Bowl Era, the Packers won nine NFL Championships. Since then, they have also won four Super Bowls.

The Packers have also had a great deal of success at the quarterback position throughout their history. Arnie Herber, for example, is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and won four NFL Championships in Green Bay. Bart Starr, of course, is one of the most recognizable names in franchise in NFL history and won five NFL titles, including the first two Super Bowls.

Other than the titles won between Herber and Starr, though, the Packers have won just four other championships. This is surprising to many given the fact that they had Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers under center for 30 years starting in 1992. However, both Favre and Rodgers only won one Super Bowl with Green Bay.

The Green Bay Packers Had Their Chances with Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers

Favre, of course, won Super Bowl XXXI with the Packers in the 1996 season. Rodgers won Super Bowl XLV with them in 2010. There are plenty of people, though, who believe they should have won more. Indeed, they had plenty of opportunities.

Prior to winning Super Bowl XXI, Favre and the Packers lost to the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Championship Game. The year after winning, they lost Super Bowl XXXII to the Denver Broncos. It would be nearly 10 years before they returned to a NFC Championship Game, but when they did in 2007, Favre threw an interception as his final throw in a Packers uniform to hand the game to the New York Giants.

Rodgers did not fare much better. Unlike Favre, he only appeared in one Super Bowl. Despite reaching the NFC Championship in 2014, 2016, 2019, and 2020, Rodgers was never able to get over the hump and back to the Title Game.

Houston Texans Quarterback CJ Stroud Says the Green Bay Packers Would Have Won More Rings with Matthew Stafford

During a recent podcast appearance, Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud said that he would rather have a career more like Eli Manning’s than Aaron Rodgers’. The reason, he said, was because Manning had two Super Bowl rings and Rodgers only has one.

He took it a step further later in the show saying that if Matthew Stafford had been on the Packers, or if the Lions had talent like the Packers during Stafford’s years there, he would have won three or four rings:

#Texans QB CJ Stroud says Matthew Stafford would have 3 or 4 rings if he had been in Aaron Rodgers’ shoes all those years in Green Bay.

“If you gave Matthew Stafford a chance like Aaron Rodgers had, I guarantee you he might have more rings for sure.”

Well, for whatever reason, it sure doesn’t sound like Stroud is a big Rodgers fan.
