The Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints played in an instant classic on Sunday. The Packers overcame a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit to steal an 18-17 victory over the Saints. It was certainly one of the more memorable home openers of recent memory.
The Saints, however, lost their starting quarterback Derek Carr early in the second half after a vicious sack from Rashan Gary. The hit had Carr land directly on his shoulder and he was taken back to the locker room almost immediately. We now have been informed of the severity of the injury.
New Orleans Saints Announce The Extent Of Derek Carr’s Injury Against The Green Bay Packers
Late Sunday afternoon, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport provided an update on Saints QB Carr. It appears Carr suffered a less serious injury than initially anticipated, according to Rapoport. In a multitude of tests, Carr was not found to have any additional damage to his right shoulder.
It is believed that he has an AC sprain to his right shoulder. As Rapoport notes, Carr may miss some time (depending on swelling and overall mobility) but the injury is unlikely to end his season. Here is a video of the hit:

The Saints next four opponents include the Buccaneers, Patriots, Texans, and Jaguars. Jameis Winston obviously has a ton of starting experience in the league and should be able to keep the team afloat in Carr’s absence.
