The Green Bay Packers have shown their hand a bit this off-season. After a substantial amount of player turnover this off-season, the Packers are suddenly one of the youngest teams in the NFL. In fact, the core of their offense (Watson, Doubs, Love, Musgrave, Kraft, Reed, Jones, Dillon) have an average age of under 24 (23.8).
As it turns out, the Packers may be prepared to get even younger on offense over the next season or so.
Green Bay Packers Attempting To Trade For Jonathan Taylor Shows They’re Planning For Life Without Aaron Jones
Robin Adams, Co-Owner of Wisconsin Sports Heroics, reported the news for our site earlier today:
According to an article written by Stephen Holder of ESPN:
“The Green Bay Packers also were in talks with the Colts and had legitimate interest in trading for the star running back, sources told ESPN.
“Indianapolis moved forward after its self-imposed deadline of Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET came and went without receiving what the team deemed an acceptable offer for Taylor, who requested a trade last month and was authorized by the Colts last week to seek out a trade partner.
“But the Packers emerging as a contender remains relevant because Taylor can still be traded, even though he is on the reserve-physically unable to perform list and therefore must miss at least the first four games of the regular season.”

On Tuesday, the Packers made the decision to carry three running backs onto their initial 53-man roster: Aaron Jones, AJ Dillon, and Emanuel Wilson. It is unclear what the plan would have been had Green Bay been able to swing a trade, or what players/draft picks may have been involved.
Obviously, a running back trio of Taylor, Jones, and Dillon would be the best three-headed monster backfield in the NFL. By far.
This Move Shows Aaron Jones Days Might Be Numbered With The Packers
There is no doubt that the Packers’ interest in Taylor places both Jones’ and Dillon’s future with Green Bay in question. Aaron Jones sacrificed a part of his salary to stay with the Packers, but the future of Jones’ relationship with the franchise after 2023 is not clear. Currently, Dillon is in the final year of his rookie contract and whether or not he is re-signed after this season remains a mystery.
It is widely believed that Taylor wants a large extension in any trade that occurs. The fact that the Packers were in trade talks indicates they are willing to make that type of commitment to Taylor. As a result, regardless of Taylor’s contract, it would be near impossible to keep Taylor, Jones, and Dillon with the team beyond the 2023 season.
With Jones likely seeking a top market contract beyond this season, it would make sense that Dillon is the one that stays. Taylor’s arrival would strengthen the young core of the Packers’ offense. That offense features Jordan Love, who is entering his first season as the full-time starter. Taylor is only 24 years old, which means he is in the prime of his career.
