The Green Bay Packers suffered a humiliating loss to the Detroit Lions on Thursday Night Football. At the half the Packers trailed the Lions 27-3. The final of 34-20 was not what many Packers fans would have expected.
Christian Watson made his season debut against the Detroit Lions in Week Four. He had missed the first three games of the season due to a lingering hamstring injury. However, he was clearly on a pitch count as he only had four targets and two receptions all game. Following the loss Matt LaFleur made a comment on Watson’s health moving forward.
Green Bay Packers Head Coach Releases Statement On Christian Watson’s Health After Loss To The Detroit Lions
According to CBS’ Zach Jacobson:
Matt LaFleur said he’s hopeful that Aaron Jones and Christian will be able to play at a full workload in next Monday’s game against the Raiders, but they were indeed on a pitch count last night. “We wanted to be careful with them,” he said.
The Packers’ offense is much different with #9 on the field. Watson has certainly been frustrated with his injury return but remains positive. When addressing the media recently, Watson said:
“Honestly, I’m going into every week thinking I have a chance. That’s definitely how I’m approaching it and, as of right now, I still have that same mentality of thinking I have a shot to go this week.
“Obviously, I want to play more than anyone else out there in the world wants me to play, so I’m definitely trying to play. And in my head, my plan is to try to prepare like I’m going on Sunday. If that is what it is, then obviously I’m going to be really excited. And if it’s not, then it is what it is, as well.”
The Packers will now have a semi bye week as they get ready to take on the Las Vegas Raiders on October 9th. If the Packers want to start moving in the right direction, they’re going to have to utilize Jones and Christian Watson much more in the offense.
