The Green Bay Packers are limping into Week 16 at 6-8 to take on the lowly Carolina Panthers (2-12). While star running back Aaron Jones is no longer listed on the injury report, there are several players that have already been ruled out due to injuries: Darnell Savage, De’Vondre Campbell, and Luke Musgrave (who had been designated to return from injured reserve).
Musgrave, of course, has been out for the past four games with a lacerated kidney that he suffered against the Los Angeles Chargers. While Green Bay undoubtedly has missed their second round tight end from the 2023 NFL Draft, his absence has given them a chance to see what they have in third round pick Tucker Kraft.
The former South Dakota State star has played well in Musgrave’s absence, recording 13 receptions for 173 yards and two touchdowns in the past four games. Indeed, when Musgrave is able to take the field again, the Packers may have one of the best receiving tight end duos in the NFL.
Hopefully that return will happen before the season ends. Musgrave is just one reception away from tying the Packers’ record for catches by a rookie tight end. Bubba Franks set that record with 34 back in 2000. Musgrave currently has 33 receptions for 341 yards and a touchdown.
Green Bay Packers Tight End Luke Musgrave Reveals Gruesome Detail of His Kidney Injury
Musgrave has not really said much since his injury, but spoke to reporters following practice on Friday. During this media session, he revealed a pretty gruesome detail about his injury:
Luke Musgrave played through a lacerated kidney Week 11.
“I knew something was probably wrong, but I mean, that’s kinda football. You play through pain & then it usually hurts a little more after the game.”
Started pissing blood at home.

As fans may remember, Musgrave finished the game despite knowing he had gotten hurt. Even though he was feeling a great deal of pain, he did not realize how serious the injury was. At the beginning of the clip above, Musgrave revealed that there was blood in his urine, and that is when he knew that something was seriously wrong.
Musgrave also revealed he had a Grade Four laceration to his kidney, which is the second-worst kind of laceration a person can suffer. Even though he will likely be unable to play pain-free anymore this season, he does hope he can come back in Week 17 or 18.
