The Packers are predicted to look for All-American WR help
Wide receiver depth has been a major issue for the Green Bay Packers this season. Injuries and inexperience at the position have hobbled the Packers’ offense. The Packers’ offensive has improved as the wide receiver room has become healthier in recent weeks. Rookie wide receiver Christian Watson has played extremely well the previous two weeks. However, one NFL writer suggests the Packers will look to add an All-American wide receiver to the roster next season.
Josh Edwards of CBS Sports created a mock draft for 2023 this week. Edwards has the Packers taking USC wide receiver Jordan Addison with the 16th overall pick in the draft:
Green Bay historically does not use first-round picks on the wide receiver position but this season has been a litmus test for that strategy and it has failed. To maximize the final year(s?) of Aaron Rodgers’ career, the Packers need to jump in feet first and try to resolve their issues.
Addison could be a star in the NFL
Addison is a star at the college level. He won consensus All-American honors with the Pittsburgh Panthers when quarterback Kenny Pickett was tossing him touchdown passes. Addison transferred to USC this offseason. He’s thrived working in head coach Lincoln Riley’s offense with quarterback Caleb Williams. Addison has seven touchdowns in eight games with the Trojans.
Addison will likely be able to transfer his elite skills to the NFL. But the Packers have a lot of positions they need to look at in the 2023 draft. The teams will need to look at options on the offensive and defensive lines to start with. Addison might be a reach at 16 for the Packers.
