When the Green Bay Packers first hired Jeff Hafley as their defensive coordinator last offseason, he promised that the team’s pass rush and run defense would be vastly improved. And while the Packers did have the seventh-best run defense in the NFL, they did not get after the quarterback as often or as well as they should have.
Unsurprisingly, this underperformance led to the dismissal of defensive line coach Jason Rebrovich last week. Prior to being named to his previous position, Rebrovich had worked under former defensive coordinator Joe Barry.
In addition to Rebrovich being fired, quarterbacks coach Tom Clements, the only coach in NFL history to have worked with Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers, and Jordan Love, announced his retirement.
And so, Green Bay has started their offseason by looking for two new coaches.
The Green Bay Packers Have Interviewed Kacy Rodgers for the Defensive Line Coach Job
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Packers are interviewing Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers:
#Bucs DL coach and run game coordinator Kacy Rodgers is interviewing today with #Packers coach Matt LaFleur for their open D-line position, sources say.
Rodgers’ contract in Tampa is up and he’s viewed as a top free agent assistant who will have a robust market.

As Rapoport notes, Rodgers is a coach free agent now and is widely respected around the NFL. Surely, the Packers are not the only team interested in adding him.
However, one other NFL insider thinks he may be just what Green Bay needs.
NFL Insider Says Kacy Rodgers Would Be a Major Asset to the Green Bay Packers
According to Matt Lombardo of Wisconsin Sports Heroics, who knows Rodgers and has covered his work for years:
“Kacy Rodgers is excellent at getting the most out of his players, and you’ve seen it over the years in his role in Leonard Williams’ development and Vita Vea becoming one of the most disruptive defensive linemen in the sport. His leadership would be a major asset for Matt LaFleur, and the Packers’ defense.”
Rodgers first started his NFL coaching career in 2003 with the Dallas Cowboys as their defensive tackles coach. He also was their defensive line coach from 2005-2007.
He then went to the Miami Dolphins from 2008-2014 as their defensive line coach. Rodgers then served as the defensive coordinator of the New York Jets from 2015-2018.
He had been with the Buccaneers since 2019.
It is rather notable that Rodgers has remained with the same team for multiple seasons at each of his stops. He could be a great long-term solution for the Packers.
