The Green Bay Packers have allowed Justin Hood, one of their defensive assistant coaches, to explore a new opportunity with the Atlanta Falcons. This development comes after a breakout season from Jordan Love and a surprising run by the team to the playoffs.
A couple of weeks ago, the Packers’ impressive season came to an end at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers. Due to a pair of costly mistakes – one by Anders Carlson’s missed kick and another by Love’s wild pass to no one – the Brock Purdy-led squad advanced to the NFC Championship, and eventually the Super Bowl.
Even if that’s the case, there’s no denying the incredible season Green Bay had this year. After a trade that sent Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets, there was an expectation for the team to fail. Instead, the leap Love took raised the Packers’ ceiling and catapulted them into the playoffs.
With Hood now gone from the coaching staff, the front office will have to find a replacement for next season.
Atlanta Falcons Hire Former Green Bay Packers Assistant Coach Justin Hood
On the part of Hood, there’s no denying the talent and experience he’s going to bring to the Falcons. This is backed up by head coach Matt LeFleur.
In an article posted by Sports Illustrated:
“I think just what Jerry and Ryan Downard and Justin Hood do for those guys and getting them coached up on some of the looks they can potentially see. I really think the communication and everybody being on the same page. We’ve had less coverage busts, which is typically a recipe for giving up big plays,” LaFleur said.
Before Hood worked for Green Bay, he was Kent State’s secondary coach and defensive passing game coordinator in 2019 and 2020. In the upcoming season, though, his talents will now go to Atlanta to help the Falcons improve their defense.
